Fourth graders had a fantastic day on Mackinac Island Friday, and were lucky enough to have blue skies and warm temperatures. They started the day with a charter bus ride to Mackinaw City, embarked on a ferry across the Straits to Mackinac Island, and spent the day with their classmates and chaperones. Visiting Fort Mackinac, taking the carriage tour, riding bikes around the island, checking out the butterfly house, and stopping at the shops along Main Street were all high on the list. The fudge and cookies from the cookie company were both winners. As the day closed, they boarded the ferry to head to St. Ignace. Our buses were waiting to take us across the bridge and back into the lower peninsula. Many happy memories were made; it was a trip worth waiting for.

Together, Central students brought in just over $1200 in donations to help our community with Dimes for Diapers. ABC12 stopped by to present a trophy for earning a Top 10 Spot. Way to SOAR students!

Students in Mrs. Fitzgerald’s math/science classes at Central are studying how light is reflected or refracted, whether materials are transparent, translucent, or opaque, and how light waves strike layers of bubble film at slightly different rates causing colors to swirl and interfere with each other. Bubbles are also the perfect opportunity to examine Pi a little more closely. Students each made their own Pi City while waiting their turn to blow bubbles. Once bubbles were blown and popped, their diameter could be measured and Pi could be used to determine each bubble’s circumference by using the formula C = π • d

Central Elementary finished up their tree-mendous school project by planting the school's very own wishtree. Together the students and staff purchased an Oak tree for the school grounds that would forever remind them and serve as a symbol of the school's commitment to being "welcomers" and a safe harbor for all students, just like "Red" in the story Wishtree.
